Super-fast fibre optic broadband delivers the next generation of internet connectivity. John Lewis Fibre Broadband uses technology known as 'Fibre To The Cabinet' (FTTC), which connects telephone exchanges to green street cabinets using fibre optic links.


The faster network can then be used to deliver more bandwidth-hungry broadband services. Unlike our Standard and Unlimited Broadband, the distance from your local telephone exchange doesn't determine the speed you can get. With fibre optic broadband, the distance from your nearest green street cabinet, and the quality of the line between the cabinet and your property, determine your speed.


With speeds of up to 38Mb, you'll find it easier to stream high definition video, download large files quickly, or simply surf web pages with minimal delay. For example, if you're downloading a music track, with a 4Mb connection it'll take around 16 seconds, but with 38Mb only 2 seconds. For a 30 minute TV show in HD, with 4Mb it will take 40 minutes, but with 38Mb only 4 minutes.

The download allowance is 100GB a month on our Fibre Broadband, letting you make the most of your super-fast connection. This will typically allow for all of the following. This is illustrative only:

  • 15,000 web pages
  • 1,500 emails without attachments
  • 750 emails with photos
  • 1,125 music tracks
  • 375 hours of streaming or watching iPlayer
  • plus, anything you download between midnight and 8am doesn't count towards your 100GB limit

and you can always top up your allowance each month by 5GB for £5. You can also view your usage in our online portal.

A router is included in your package, which means you'll be able to enjoy fast wireless broadband throughout your home. Set-up is very easy, and we'll make sure your router is specially configured before we send it to you, so that you'll be up and running really quickly. And of course if you get stuck, just give us a call and we'll be happy to talk you through every step.

We understand the importance of internet security, and have a range of security functions designed to help keep your family and your computer safe from internet threats.

For PC users we offer BullGuard, a simple and complete PC security package with Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall, Spam Filter and Online Backup Protection. It's compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP (SP2 minimum) and is included with your broadband service.

For Mac users we suggest Intego software security; it's compatible with Mac OS X. There are savings on Intego products exclusively for John Lewis Broadband customers; find out more when you sign up.

Sometimes you may just want to pick up the phone and talk to someone about your broadband service. If you ever have any questions or issues, then just give us a call and we'll be happy to help. Our freephone service is free from a landline, and our UK call centre is staffed by people who are broadband experts.

Some broadband providers vary their charges according to where you live. We believe all our customers should be treated the same.

If you want one, we'll give you a John Lewis Broadband email address. You'll be able to access your email in three different ways: via an email program on your computer (such as Microsoft Outlook), via your mobile device, or via our webmail service, which lets you send and receive email through our website.

To receive our Fibre Broadband you'll need:

  • one of our John Lewis phone options
  • an internet-enabled device, such as computer or tablet

We'll arrange for an installation engineer to visit your home at no additional charge, as soon as possible. You can choose the date and time slot that suits you best when you sign up, either AM (8am - 1pm) or PM (1 - 6pm) Monday to Friday.


The engineer will carry out work at the telephone exchange and your green street cabinet before arriving at your property. Installation takes about 3-4 hours, during which time your broadband and telephone won't work until the engineer has connected your service.


The engineer will replace your master socket with a new faceplate, which has 2 separate sockets - for your phone at the bottom, and for broadband at the top.


The engineer will bring a new fibre modem and plug it directly into your master socket, and will be able to answer any questions you have about your new fibre service.

You'll need to take a John Lewis phone line along with your John Lewis Broadband service. When you switch your phone service to John Lewis you'll pay line rental to us. We'll send you one monthly bill, showing your line rental charge, plus any calls you've made. Whenever possible we'll keep your current phone number. However, in some cases we can't transfer numbers. If you can't keep your number we'll let you know before you switch to us.


We also offer a range of call features at an additional cost.
