  • Speed

    The fastest speed offered by our Standard Broadband is 16Mb. Although the speed you actually achieve will vary depending on; line length, quality of your home wiring and time of day, we'll make sure you always get the fastest possible speed for your area. On average, this is 5.6Mb for our customers.

  • 20GB usage

    Each month we'll give you a download allowance of 20GB, that's perfect for light to medium use. Alternatively, you can top up your allowance each month by 5GB for £5. See details below for an example of what 20GB usage looks like. For unrestricted usage, you may wish to consider our Unlimited Broadband instead.

  • Wireless router

    A router is included in your package. Our router uses Wireless-N technology, which means you'll be able to enjoy fast wireless broadband throughout your home.

  • Online security

    A comprehensive PC security package from BullGuard is included to help stop viruses and malicious software getting through to your computer. So, you can rest assured, knowing you'll always be protected.

  • Customer support

    You'll have access to a useful online portal, letting you manage your account and view technical support guides. However if you do have any questions on your broadband service, just call us and we'll be happy to help. Our freephone service is free from a landline, based in the UK.

The fastest speed offered by our Standard Broadband is 16Mb, if you live in a high speed area. The speed you actually get will vary depending on a number of factors - the distance from your house to your local exchange, the quality of the wiring in your house, time of day and how many people are using broadband in your local area. Rest assured that we'll make sure you always get the fastest possible speed for your area and phone line. On average, our customers achieve 5.6Mb and this is increasing all the time. When you sign up, we'll confirm the typical speeds you can expect to achieve.

The download allowance is 20GB per month on our Standard Broadband, which will typically allow for all of the following. This is illustrative only:

  • 2,000 web pages
  • 200 emails without attachments
  • 100 emails with photos
  • 150 music tracks
  • 50 hours of streaming or watching iPlayer
  • plus, anything you download between midnight and 8am doesn't count towards your 20GB limit

and you can always top up your allowance each month by 5GB for £5. You can also view your usage in our online portal.

A router is included in your package, which means you'll be able to enjoy fast wireless broadband throughout your home. Set-up is very easy, and we'll make sure your router is specially configured before we send it to you, so that you'll be up and running really quickly. And of course if you get stuck, just give us a call and we'll be happy to talk you through every step.

We understand the importance of internet security, and have a range of solutions designed to help keep your family and your computer safe from internet threats.

For PC users we offer BullGuard, a simple and complete PC security package with Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall, Spam Filter and Online Backup Protection. It's compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP (SP2 minimum) and is included with your broadband service.

For Mac users we suggest Intego software security; it's compatible with Mac OS X. There are savings on Intego products exclusively for John Lewis Broadband customers; find out more when you sign up.

Sometimes you may just want to pick up the phone and talk to someone about your broadband service. If you ever have any questions or issues, then just give us a call and we'll be happy to help. Our freephone service is free from a landline, and our UK call centre is staffed by people who are broadband experts.

Some broadband providers vary their charges according to where you live. We believe all our customers should be treated the same.

If you want one, we'll give you a John Lewis Broadband email address. You'll be able to access your email in three different ways: via an email program on your computer (such as Microsoft Outlook), via your mobile device, or via our webmail service, which lets you send and receive email through our website.

To receive our Standard Broadband you'll need:

  • one of our John Lewis phone options
  • an internet-enabled device, such as computer or tablet

We'll send you a wireless router, and clear and easy instructions on how to get started.


If you're switching from another broadband or phone provider, rest assured in most cases you'll stay online with no interruptions whilst we switch your services over to John Lewis Broadband.


An engineer will only need to visit your property to install broadband if you don't already have a phone line, or you're switching over from a cable service. If you do need this work to be done we'll tell you when you sign up, and you'll be able to book an engineer appointment that's convenient for you.

You'll need to take a John Lewis phone line along with your John Lewis Broadband service. When you switch your phone service to John Lewis you'll pay line rental to us. We'll send you one monthly bill, showing your line rental charge, plus any calls you've made. Whenever possible we'll keep your current phone number. However, in some cases we can't transfer numbers. If you can't keep your number we'll let you know before you switch to us.


We also offer a range of call features at an additional cost.
